Culminating Project Summer Institute, Portland 2010

This Institute for Teachers, School and District Leaders, Nonprofit Partners will focus on developing projects that contribute to the community and are meaningful for students.

Develop Powerful Culminating Projects by
  • Establishing a process that supports exhibitions that are academically rigorous;
  • Providing a year-long sequence of learning that helps students find a personal passion;
  • Increasing the value of the projects to students and community through service-learning;
  • Developing a sequence of experiences so students can successfully complete a student-directed project;
  • Building supportive partnerships with nonprofits and national service programs; and
  • Establishing thoughtful risk management plans.
This interactive institute will give you a rare opportunity to see high-quality projects up close and explore ideas with educators, students and nonprofit organizations.

  • Kate McPherson, Director of Project Service Leadership and National Service-Learning Practitioner Award Winner.
  • Sue Anne Higgins, Principal - Riverdale High School- member of the Coalition of Essential Schools
  • Santha Cassell, Senior Exhibitions Coordinator - Riverdale High School
Where: Riverdale High School, Portland , Oregon

When:
  • July 22: 8:30-5:00 including a visit to Mercy Corps' Action Center
  • Dinner on your own in Portland (Optional service evening)
  • July 23: 8:30 - 4:00
